How to get a real job
How I did it: With college graduation approaching, it was time to look for a new job. In the worst economy in twenty years. Excellent. Skipping the corporate route with my BA in Biblical and Theological Studies (and really, is Juneau a thriving metropolis anyways? no), I thought about the places that I'd want to work at this point in my life. Do I need a super serious career at the moment? No. Do I want to work in a cubicle at the age of 22? No. I thought of the things I like to do and the places I like to be, and I decided that working at a cute little indie bookstore would be perfect for me. I could dress cute in clothes I already have (a financial plus), get a discount (a potential financial negative), revamp the religion section (use that degree!), and go home at night not worried about my career and where it was headed apart from when it would begin. I can't get a job in my field without a Master's at I can't get a Master's without money, so why not make that money doing something I enjoy? I called the local indie bookstore and poof! Two weeks later I was gainfully employed.
