How to give up butter for lent.
How I did it: well, i'm not exactly catholic anymore, but i really like the idea of giving things up for lent. i think that it's as important to have periods of fasting, as it is to have periods of indulgence. i am a butter addict. i used to claim that butter was my favorite food until someone convinced me that it was a condiment, and that i needed to pick something else. now my favorite food is popcorn... because it's a vehicle for butter. anyway, i'm super fat right now. mucho super fat. i thought laying off the butter would help. it didn't. but i do like a good exercise in restraint, so i definitely would qualify this as something worth doing. (insert your vice everywhere i used the word butter.) also, it's a good head start on my week of veganism. not sure when that will happen, but soon.
Lessons & tips: giving up something that you eat regularly is really hard, but not at all impossible. leave your excuses at the door, and learn to enjoy other choices.
Resources: restraint. not having butter in the house. jesus (you know, for being the reason that lent exists), my parents (for raising me catholic, even though i have since forsaken their teachings. but hey, at least one thing stuck!)
