How I did it: Took four weeks to work up the nerve.  My mom (hairdresser) did it for me, smelled bad and had rod marks for a few days.  Took a nice long while to do.  I also got it cut to just below chin length at the same time.

Lessons & tips: Nervous about the potential 'poodle effect', it was a little alarming at first, but I just straightened it for a few days, after that it relaxed up and was really cute. A few shampoos into it, the look of it improved also.
