How to stop working for the man
It made me
stop hating my life 
"I worked for an evil corporation for 4 years that sucked my soul and my will to live. I didn't know what else I wanted to do, but I knew it wasn't customer service!"
How I did it: I used some familial connections to secure a 6 month contract at a local educational institution (non-profit, woohoo!) which has stretched into 18 months now and will likely result in a permanent position.
Lessons & tips: Don't be afraid.
I quit a permanent, full time job to take a 6 month position which was scary - but it paid off and I'm SO happy to be out of the corporate world. So if an opportunity pops up, no matter how small - go for it!
