How to visit california

"san francisco, los angeles, and the great american railroad experience. "
How I did it: Got tickets for amtrak. Took a vacation. Visited my friends. Flew out of NYC, and had $250 tickets. Flew into San Francisco and bummed around for a few days, visited long beach, etc. And then took the public transportation to the Amtrak terminal. Took the day-long railroad, and saw the West like I"d never ever seen it before. It was beautiful.
Flew home, and had a camera full of used film, and some new smile lines creasing my cheeks.
Lessons & tips: San Francisco is not that expensive to visit! There are a ton of cheap hotels and staying with friends or folks on www.hospitalityclub.org is free!
