How to become an occupational therapist
How I did it: The degree took four years and included 1000 hours of fieldwork placements. The degree itself was pretty stressful at times with lots of assisgnments due in the same week. The best part of doing the course was the placements, I did my final placement in India which was a challenging but really worthwhile experience.
Lessons & tips:
- Study with friends for subjects like Anatomy which require lots of rote learning
- If you have a part time job, don't work too many hours because you will get stressed and burnt out (I made this mistake)
- Don't be afraid to make mistakes on placement, that is the best time to make mistakes because you have good supervision etc and it's better to make mistakes before you're a practioner
