How I did it: Finally, after more than a year of deciding on this, we went out and got a track phone. No contract, buy minutes when I need them, for me it's the best deal. I'm only using the phone when I'm away from home, and then only if I need to.
So now I've got one, and I'm just like everyone else.
Lessons & tips: However, so far, when I want to use it I find I have no connection! I wonder why cell phones are so popular when you are unable to use them most of the time. Those ads that claim a certain provider gets more cell phone connections are just trying to cell their service, so don't believe it! They all lie! No one company can get connections everywhere! It's all hype!!!

I love my phone and I have upgraded phones twice as the newer version comes out. At $20 why not? I seem to get pretty good service everywhere except for a stretch on route 7 which is probably where you would use it most.
I wish your expereicne was a little happier.
