How to read the complete works of Jane Austen
How I did it: Such a great writer, with so much to say about men and women and their roles. Start with Pride and Prejudice, as it is funny and wonderful, but do go on to Sense and Sensibility, which is fantastic in it's celebration of, well, being sensible. Northanger Abbey is my least favourite, it is a bit too frothy and silly for my taste, but there is value in all of her works. Jane Austen is like the wiser, common sense part of your inner voice. If we were all like the wiser of her heroines, life would run much smoother.
I was going through a nasty breakup and was still living in the same house as my ex for a month as we sorted out new accommodation, I was sleeping on the couch and needed distraction. Read Sense and Sensibility and the lessons of not letting all of your emotions hang out was a useful one.
