How I did it: I live in Missouri where the soil is nothing but clay and rock, so I built a raised bed. It costs a little more to start but it is so worth it.
Last year I had a single 8 by 10 raised bed. Now that's doubled and I planted 4 fruit trees and 3 blueberry bushes.
You wouldn't believe how good it feels to know that you grew what you are eating, it just seems to taste so much better.
