That's great
I thought I would need to go to Alaska or Hawaii to see them. That is really interesting about Quebec! Belugas are really cool!
How I did it: You don't have to go crazy far away to see a variety of whales. For me I have seen them on a couple different occasions. Quebec actually has one of the most diverse sea populations on the Earth! Including 13 species of large sea animals. We where able to see a very large pod of adorable little Belugas, They are endangered and 1000 of them take up residence in the St. Lawrence. They Where stuning!
There was a slight Moby Dick moment when the largest creature I have ever seen in my life (and yes I have been to the zoo and seen elephants) followed right behind us in the breaks, a Blue Whale. They can grow to be 82 feet in length and are the largest known animal on the planet! Im talking massive, it could have swallowed our little boat whole.
On the east coast of Canada we saw Sperm whales, Humpbacks, and seals. In florida all the dolphins you would wish to see. Unfortunatly due to a hurricane hitting the coast when I was in Digby NS I never got to see the Orcas that where passing through, so I am still hoping to go to Vancouver to see them
Lessons & tips: By all means plan a trip some where far away like Alaska or a tropical destination, if you can not then find an area within driving range, make a road trip of it. I highly reccomend Quebec if your within a few days drive, you can stay near Quebec city which is full of history and amazing architecture
Be sure to check out the best time of year, yes whales are in the Ocean all year, but they move around, and pass through certain areas in a higher concentration at certain times of year. Making them easier to spot.
Go for it! You wont regret this one.
