How to learn how to use a pogo stick
How I did it: Nearly a year ago, I started remembering about my pogo stick that I would use when I was little. Well, within the years it got lost so I borrowed my cousin's pogo stick. I started using it immediately, and within three days I had mastered bouncing. =)
Lessons & tips:
- When you're on the pogo stick, jump like if you were trying to smash a box. Bend your knees enough to push it all the way down, and then extend to bring it back up. Don't be afraid of the pogo stick reaching the bottom of the peg, since it can't break.
- When the pogo stick is falling towards one direction, lean towards the opposite direction. Most people jump off because they are afraid of falling.
Don't be afraid of falling off the pogo stick. I've been pogoing for nearly a year now, doing tricks, and I only got hurt twice:
Once was while attempting to do a certain trick in a narrow hallway. Always go outside and on a hard surface.
And the second time was because I was surrounded by my mother's flower pots. Make sure you don't have anything near your bouncing section.
Also, one thing that you should keep in mind is that everyone is different and we all learn at different speeds. Some people can take 5 minutes, others can take 5 months! So, be patient.
Resources: I couldn't have learned it without the encouraging advice that my friend, Mark, provided me with. He's a famous pogoer in the UK, so his advice wasn't coming from just anyone. So, if you have any friends or family that pogo, try to get them to help you out. =)
