How to read bible more often
How I did it: Every night before going ot bed, I pick up my Bible, which lies waiting on my nightstand. I read at least a chapter or two, with a pen in my hand, and I mull over everything that I see in society, movies, media. I make connections to the text and the advice that my Bible offers, and bracket or underline verses that strike me as definitive. Marking my Bible makes reading more interactive, and helps me focus instead of skimming.
Lessons & tips: Pick inspiring chapters to read. I started with John, which had an interesting plot that made me want to keep on reading it. It wasn't like reading dry pages, I felt as if I was reading a story. I would recommend the books of the New Testament first because many are directed specifically at grabbing the audience's attention and are condensed and straightforward with lessons in following Christ.
Resources: I ardently recommend NIV Bibles. The King James Version was hard to understand. I also recommend a Student Bible, which has introductions to each book, clarifications, an index, and subject guides.
