How to touch the Hollywood sign
How I did it: We searched the net for directions, which have been since removed. We made it to a stable in the hills below the sign, and parked there. We followed the crowd, and then jumped off on our own path to the top. We followed a sort of drainage ditch with electrical wire conduits to the top, and then walked along the chain link fence. When we were above the sign, we started down---not an easy descent. Just sand, and garbage. When we were almost to the sign a security guard started yelling at people to get off the property. We continued down, stopped at the "D", and then started back toward the car. On the "road", or path back to the car, a security guard came up behind us in a pickup truck. We thought we were going to jail, instead he gave us some evil eye looks and drove on. My wife, and I had a nervous laugh, and raced back to the car. The adrenaline rush was the best of our 30 day trip from Anchorage to central Florida.
Lessons & tips: Look for directions to the stable in the hills around the sign. Park there, and walk the rest of the way.
