How to find the perfect perfume
How I did it:
I purchased my first bottle of perfume on a cruise ship. Not an ideal way to go about it, but I still managed to find a spicy winter scent that I really loved.
Lessons & tips:
Go to a store with qualified staff. (Sephora is a good choice.)
Have a type of scent in mind and ask for fragrances that fit what you want, whether it’s floral, citrus, or spicy.
Spray a few selections onto test strips. Clear your palette after you smell two or three by sniffing something neutral. (Stores often supply small bowls of coffee beans for this purpose.)
When you find a scent that smells good on paper, spray some on your wrist and wear it around for the rest of the day. Perfumes change with time. As the top notes dissolve, the middle and base notes come out. Make sure you like the way it smells all the way through.
If you like the way the perfume mixes with your body chemistry at the end of the day, go back and buy it.
