How to get my house ready to sell
How I did it: Firstly we did an inventory of each room, listing all the jobs that needed doing.
My husband took care of the decorating and fixing of areas whilst I, the one responsible for the clutter in the first place, took on the task of sorting through all our belongings. Some were thrown, others given away and some stored ready for a car boot sale. The things which we don't need right now (e.g some ornaments, books, rarely used kitchen items etc.) we have stored at a friend's house until the sale is made.
Once we had it looking somewhere presentable, we had it valued and subsequently appointed an estate agent. We appointed a solicitor who sorted the mandatory Home info. pack for us. Next week the estate agent is,going to take the photos and take measurements then we are good to go. Yay! We are so ready to move on now. Wish us luck! :-D
Lessons & tips: - Declutter and put things into storage that you won't need for a while
- Clean from top to bottom
- Give the place a lick of paint
- Make sure your garden is tidy - plant up some pots to dadd a bit of colour - you can take them with you when you move also
Resources: - The House Doctor programme
- My husband!
- A helpful friend who had loads of space for storage
- A friendly estate agent (mystery shop first - you'll see what kind of service potential buyers may get!)
- A solicitor
- A couple of days annual leave from work to clean and de-clutter
