"hard, but the feeling is so worth it"
How I did it: I have had a savings account since age 12. Ever since then my goal was to reach $1,000. On May 11, 2009 I accomplished my goal.
This was hard! I used to love going on shopping sprees.
I can tell you this..
It took hard work (literally...a couple of odd jobs here and there) and a whole lotta sacrifice and discipline.
I hid my debit card for one month. That seemed to help abit. However, I knew where the card was.
I tried not buying anything for one month...the best thing EVER! When the 30 days was over a number things happened. For a while I still didn't trust myself with money. I didn't go into my favorite stores. Or Walmart (small things add up.) Or really any clothing store for that matter. After a great while this behavior became second nature. Secondly, buying anything become almost evil and sickening. As they say it takes 30-40 days to break a habit.
Lessons & tips: don't buy anything for a set period of time. If you know you're going to spend money during this time...throw away your card. You can order a new one from the bank (note: some banks charge a replacement fee for new cards.)
