How to become LEED certified
"It was a lot of memorization, but now it's done!"
How I did it:
I signed up for the exam about three months in advance and started to study a bit. But then sorta got caught up with life and the exam snuck up on me and I suddenly realized that it was three weeks away!! So I basically did nothing but go to work and come home and study for two and half weeks. It sucked - perhaps I should add 'stop procrastinating' to my 43 things list;)
Anyway, like anything else, I just stuck to it. The incentive written into my offer letter at my job didn't hurt as a motivator either!
Lessons & tips: I'm a visual learner, so flash cards really work for me.
The practice exams that I did online were also invaluable.
Know the reference handbook for the track you are taking (NC, CI, etc) inside and out.
The questions that I had the most trouble with were about the submittals, knowing exactly what documents (besides the USGBC form) need to be submitted for each credit.
Resources: The USGBC website has lots of useful info that isn't in the reference handbook.
I found greenexamprep.com really helpful - the practice tests were difficult (on par or a bit more difficult than the real thing) and had flash cards that I could print out rather than making my own, which ended up being a time saver even though the act of making the flash cards is usually helpful in the learning process there's just soooo much info that it was quicker this way.
