"This was a huge challenge for me and something of which I am extremely proud!"
How I did it: I took three three-day workshops over the course of 18 months and practiced the SSSD technique regularly using Suhaila's DVDs. I also added plenty of cardio for endurance and eventually added physical therapy after a hip injury.
Lessons & tips: I had to be committed, dedicated and focused. It is a lot of hard work, with more to come as I continue in this format. Cymbal work and practice is necessary, as is studying music and rhythm.
Resources: Suhaila's site is a good place to start (theRealSuhaila.com) as well as the SSSD tribe on tribe.net. The Jamila Salimpour finger cymbal book and CD and the rhythm ID CD are also important. The DVD set is invaluable, but most importantly, the direct content with Suhaila through workshops is vital.
