How to get a gmail account

How I did it: I used to have a lot of online friends who were pretty tech savvy, one of them started talking about their gmail account when it first came out. This was new and it was a big deal to have a gmail account as your email address. So I asked him to send me an invite, he did and I have been using gmail ever since.
