How to buy a Holga
How I did it: I got my Holga 120CFN when the White Stripes released their custom Holga and Diana+ cameras in 2007. It was my first film camera.
My first couple rolls of film honestly sucked. But I have used my Holga loads since, and feel that I have drastically improved. It's so much fun to use, and produces the exact effects that I love.
Anyone who buys a Holga should definitely expect to alter/tape it up. Don't be afraid to mess with your camera (as long as you know what you're doing)! One piece of tape can be the only thing it takes to make your photos look better.
Lessons & tips: I don't advise you to go and order a White Stripes camera unless you are a truly devoted fan. While the cameras do come with many nifty accessories, you're basically paying $180 for a $15-30 toy camera. Get a regular Holga first and make sure you like it, at least.
Buy several rolls of film. Practice like crazy. Shoot everything. See what lighting works, what doesn't.
Don't be afraid to alter/tape up your camera. It can really help block light-leaks.
