How I did it: I went with my boyfriend and his mother.  We drove around the island starting in Dublin heading north then down and around.  The trip was planned to the minute by his mother.  I would recommend being more flexible.  There is no way you are going to see it all so just relax and enjoy what you can see.

Lessons & tips: Get a heritage card it will save you a lot of money on sites.
If you are driving get the smallest car you will comfortably fit in.
Large tour busses drive on the cliff side of the coast so either follow them or face them head on.  Your choice.  I would recommend following them.
Know that your maps are not going to do much for you and just go with it.
