How to conform less, live more
"This is a work in progress but I think it always will be til the day I die."
How I did it: We encouraged, from the day we enter school, to continue on, further our education, have a successful career, get married, have to children, own your own land, and start the process over with your kids.
I decided to start asking myself, "Am I doing this because it makes me happy or because society tells me it will make me happy?"
I'm so much happier now. I make decisions because I know it will affect me positively whether I fail or succeed.
I'm very much dependent on God now. That has definitely helped, because as much as you think that religion is "conforming" you would be surprised how much freedom there is in depending on Him.
Lessons & tips:
- Stop caring about what other people will think of you
- As yourself "Am I doing this for me or for someone else." Not in the sense of helping someone out. There are times we need to be selfless, but like on deciding... should I take this job that will support my family make me happy but I won't be able to live like the Jones or take the job that society will approve on - although it's not necessarily something I love.
- DON'T Worry so much if your are conforming. If you are not getting married or shopping at Walmart because you don't want to "conform" you are conforming to a different standard. Either way it's conforming. DO what makes you happy, what you enjoy.
