How to get a tattoo that has a significant meaning
How I did it: I had thought about getting a tattoo for a lonng time. It took me about three months to come up with a design that I knew I really, really wanted. The day after I was accepted into college, my mother took me to go get my tattoo. It was a pale pale pink lotus flower on my left shoulderblade, with a yellow center. it is beautiful! I am very happy with how it turned out. The tattoo is about the size of my palm and cost under $150 (expensive because it was an original design). The first two weeks were gross (it was peeling and nasty and all I wanted to do was pick at it) but now all I want to do is wear clothes that show it off!
Lessons & tips:
- don't pick at it when it is healing
- be sure you REALLY want it on your body forever before you go to get it done.
- ALWAYS be sure the artist giving you your tattoo is using a clean needle. You'd be surprised- regulations on that sort of thing is not always up to par with what you might be expecting.
Resources: check the reputation of the tattoo/piercing parlour before you go. read reviews online, call them and ask about their credentials, etc. Get there early for your appointment to scout out the place- if its dirty or gives you the heebie-jeebies, skip out.
