How to get dreadlocks

"It's a massive process, and I'm only at the beginning of it."
How I did it: A couple of friends of mine, one of whom has had dreadlocks for nearly two years now (I beleive), knotted up the hair into (random) locks, mostly by back-combing, and provided some advice on care. Now they'll have to grow and mature.
Lessons & tips: Don't just pay some shop hundreds of euros. Try to find local dreadheads, friends, to get you started. Check dreadlock forums and wikis for tips and "I'll make dreadlocks in your area" lists.
People will react differently to you, having dreadlocks will be different in many ways. You have to know what you want.
