How to overcome anxiety and depression
How I did it: I got to the point where I just couldn't keep being anxious or depressed anymore. I went to my doctor and got the usual prescription, but I also got a referral to a counselor. I joined some support groups online too and did a lot of reading on the issue. My counselor was supportive, but didn't always follow through and would cancel appointments. To compensate, I talked a lot more to my family and friends to get their perspective on things. One of the most helpful tricks I picked up was mindfulness. It helped me so much to stay in the moment instead of letting myself freak out about things way down the road.
Lessons & tips: I had to open up a lot more to people that I was trying to protect. For the anxiety specifically I had to write down what my anxiety was at that moment and then how I could mentally transform that.
I would definitely look into alternative health and techniques as they focus on the whole person a lot, not just the symptoms.
Resources: I had a counselor, but I also wrote a lot and talked to other people who were having the same issues
