"Amazing!"
How I did it: I worked abroad and lived in London through a program called BUNAC. I think it's easiest if you go through programs like this (because they help you obtain your working visa), or through your university. If you're not in college, take 3 classes at a community college, and you'll meet BUNAC's requirements.
The work visa is good for only 6 months, but you can get sponsored if your employer is willing to do so.
I lived there for nearly a year and love every moment. I was pretty poor since London's one of the world's most expensive cities to live in... but all the amazing things you get to do - music, free museums, pub crawls! All the interesting people you'll meet - not just the English, but people from all over Europe and the world! You won't regret a minute of it.
Lessons & tips:
- Save as much money as you can before you head on out
- Line up job prospects, if possible (their version of Craigslist is GumTree.com)
- If opening up a bank account, bring a letter from your current financial institution stating that you are in "good standing"
