How to be a tourist in my own town
How I did it: The first reason why I had to get to know my home town was because I started working in a hotel.
Not only did I have to learn about the sights of the town, but I also heard so many wonderful stories about my town from the hotel guests that I just had to explore it even more thoroughly on my own.
And I am glad I did. As not only did it help me to do my job better, it also made me a better guide for my old and new friends coming for a visit.
I no longer live in my home town, but I have developed an urge to find out as much as possible about the history of every place I live in. As it is cool to be a walking (pocket) city guide. :)
Lessons & tips:
- read books about your town's history. Everything from the tourist guides to the history books. There is lots and lots of interesting stuff in them.
- take a guided tour. Not only is it fun to meet some tourists visiting your home town, but you will also learn many things that you probably will not find in books. So gather your family or friends and take a tour next weekend. Trust me, it's worth it!
And if you didn't before, you will really start to love the place you live in. :)
