How I did it: Went to the RSPCA website for my country and looked at photos of the animals on offer. Went to the local pound. Found Mr. Gingerbottom and knew he was the special one for me. Brought him home. BFFL

Lessons & tips: Consider your living arrangements, the size of the dog, the amount it will eat, exercise required, health problems and requirements, whether or not you feel you can commit a decade + to a pet.
