How to give blood
How I did it: I've been eligible to donate blood for over two years and I decided that I needed to do it.
I was born premature and without those blood transfusions for the donated blood, I wouldn't have been here today.
I've never been scared of needles, just pain.I've had countless shots for school and physicals.
But when I had surgery for my thumb at the age of 10, it took forever to find a vein and the guy kept inserting & re-inserting the needle was so just painful and frustrating because it was hurting and I tried not to cry.
But it was a very good experience, the lady that was registering me was telling me what a good deed I was doing and told me about a life story about a guy who was doing a blood drive for his last eagle scout project and little did he know that he would've needed a lot of blood for his wife & his future twin daughters.
And when I went into the blood bank, some fellow students were reassuring me and the nurses were calming me down and put blankets on my toes and give me unlimited juice and cookies. And when she wrapped my arm in the gauze stuff, she gave me a bow too. :]
I couldn't watch them insert the needle without freaking out, but it was just minor pain/discomfort... even though it took me about an hour. But that's only because I wasn't squeezing the stress ball like at all. Hahha.
Lessons & tips: Don't be scared! Don't worry, they know what they're doing. And eat before & after the donation.
And do not do any strenuous activity afterwards.
