How I did it: Well, my cousin and I have been planning a backpacking trip to Europe as long as we can remember. We're best friends and decided since a huge part of our future plans are travelling we wanted to show our Canadian pride and always remember where we came from - plus we wanted it on our feet to symbolize travelling. After school I am planning on joining doctors without borders and/or the red cross and spending a few years working abroad. We didn't want to do it on a whim however, so we looked up designs we both wanted and waited a good half year before taking the plunge. I decided on my design and she liked it a lot so she decided on getting it as well. Since I live in a fairly large city there were a lot of tattoo parlours to choose from - all the portfolio's were available online. In the end however we decided on going with an artist that had worked on our friends, even though he had a limited portfolio. We DID do it on a whim - we went in for prices and drawings and ended up doing it on the spot. Definitely no regrets. It was a bit painful but it didn't bleed very much/at ALL (I was surprised, because my boyfriend got one on his chest and it bled a lloott) and I've had it for..three days and it's not scabbed yet or anything yucky.
Don't be deterred by threads online saying your tattoo location (like my foot) is a bad choice - everyone has an opinion on everything and if you want it just do some research and go for it. The location isn't the most important thing it's that you take care of it in the first weeks of healing=)
