How I did it: I visited a lot of areas until I found the one that endeared me the most. I concentrated on my favourite area and went to every open house to get an idea of quality and prices in the area, even though I didn't have enough money to buy yet.
6 months later I had the cash, I had the loan pre-approved, and since I had done so much homework, I knew an overvalued property when I saw one.
I love my new place - we're buying furniture for it as we speak!
Lessons & tips: Do your homework on property prices before you buy.
Do your homework researching the best loan, and don't borrow more than you can afford!
