How to get a university degree
How I did it: I worked for a few years and finally made the decision to go back to college. I completed an access course which gave me the necessary qualifications to get straight into university. I considered many different ones throughout the UK. In the end I settled for my home town. I already had a part time job which would support me throughout. The course was tough esepcially while working.
My motivation? Finally working in your dream job....and when you get there you realise all the hard work was worth it after all!
Lessons & tips: If you have family support, try to give university your main focus without working. If not, then try to work somewhere you can read/research/type while waiting for customers – I got many an essay finished on a quiet night!
Also, try uni accomodation at least for one year. If you are young, get away from home and live independently in a different town or city. Enjoy the student life and cherish those lecture hangovers! They are the best of times and the worst of times!
Resources: Now the loan and fees system has changed, you might have a huge bill at the end of your course so try not to take all the student loans offered to you. If you do, try to save them (I didn’t but hey, I had a great time!) Apply for your universitie's hardship fund if you need to.
