How I did it: dig in! do some research to find opera productions in your community or as close to it as possible.
ask family and friends to help, have any of them attended an opera? do you know anyone who can tell you a bit about operas or who might want to go along with you and share the experience.
Lessons & tips: 1. Find a friend who enjoys opera
2. Be patient but commit as soon as tickets are available by buying early with this friend who may be able to suggest an opera or two with a simple storyline so it's easy to follow along whether you sit where you can read the surtitles or not!
