"it's worth the wait"
How I did it: i started applying and handing in my CV at about 5 different places. it was unsuccessful. but then about May 2009, my sister, who works as a burista at a cafe/restaurant, said that they needed someone to work weekends. i applied, not very hopeful, as i had been turned down many times--there wasn't any room for me.
i got a text from my 'boss' saying that she would like me to come down to "have a chat".
i had a 'trial', which was 2 hours carrying drinks to tables and then she said that she would call me to let me now where they were at. there were 2 other applicants for the position.
a week later, she rings and says that she would like to offer me a part time job! i was stoaked!
Lessons & tips: keep trying, it can take a while. a week, or a month, or a year, it really is worth the wait though. so don't give up, and don't be disappointed if they turn you down. you will eventually find something that will suit you.
Also, use your connections. i got a job because of my sister, so ask your family and friends every so often if where they work have any vacancies.
