How to learn to belly dance
How I did it: My colleague and I joined an all-woman bellydance school. We went for a trial class that they were offering for $5 and got hooked. We signed up for the Intensive Bellydancing for Beginners Level 1. 2 hours every week and we learned a pretty sexy dance routine! The women were of all ages and sizes and we all felt comfortable with our bodies and each other. I signed up for the next level where we will learn other advanced techniques and I can't wait!
Lessons & tips: It was reallly awkward doing these body waves and hip shakes infront of strangers. But once you get past the initial awkwardness and just let your body flow, the rhythm will eventually take over, and you won't believe your body's ability and its muscle memory! After practicing, the steps will come to your naturally. But you must practice! I'm a bit ashamed cos I forgot some of my choreography. Have fun! And don't forget to get the bellydancing hipscarf in your favourite colour! The coins on the scarf are actually useful in accentuating your movements and ensure you're doing it right.
Other than that, remember to have fun and get ready to get back in touch with your feminity, sensuality and your body. :)
