How to volunteer by Praias

"The best way to enrich yourself and others at the same time"

How I did it: I already voluntereed on several places, the most recent one being an homeless chelter.

I did it through my parish priest (just asked him if he knew of anything and he directed me to the shelter).

Lessons & tips: I truly enjoy it because you are doing something worthwhile while at the same time enrichening yourself (and your CV).

I odn't think this goal should have a "how long" because is something I will still be doing for years to come.

Have an open mind when you start something new and you never know where it might lead you.

I sent Unicef and the Redcross

e-mails concerning my will to volunteer for them but I still haven’t gotten a response. :(

I don’t have any experience with big organizations, but how about trying somethings maller and more local? Usually small organizations struggle a lot due to the lack of volunteers and will be much more quicker in replying than the big names.

And you can. I just happened to know about this shelter through the parish priest but the shelter itself isn’t religious! :)

Look on the website mentioned and you can find all sorts, you can choose your area of interess, days that you want to volunteer and all that and it gives you a list of what is available on your area.
