How to cycle a century (100 miles)
"Woke up with a 101 degree fever, but I had to ride since "it's on the list!""
How I did it: Started training in January with an Olympic coach, then, as soon as the weather permitted, started putting in miles on the road. A supported ride (mine was with Best Buddies) is definitely the way to go, since they had frequent food and drink stops, plus Police Officers stopping traffic at nearly every intersection along the way!
One flat tire, and my fever broke along mile 26; I had to drag myself out of bed, and nearly threw in the towel at miles 26, and 50 something, but the elation of crossing the finish line was worth all of the suffering (mainly from the cold-the mileage wasn't too bad, except for the hills of the Cape.)
Lessons & tips: Train and ride as much as possible, I was riding 140-200 miles a week for months. Also, don't get sick!
