"Writing forgiveness letters was very freeing."
How I did it: I remembered reading about forgiveness letters in Iyanla Vanzant's Value in the Valley then I looked for sample letters online. I spent a lot of time trying to find the perfect format, then I realized that I just needed to do it. This perfect summer day felt like a peaceful time to dig deep. I also burned the letters afterwards.
Lessons & tips: The first letter -- to an old boss -- and the last, one I wrote to myself, were the most valuable. I also realized I wanted to write 6 letters, not 12. I wasn't holding onto resentment towards that many people!
Resources: Iyanla Vanzant's book, "Value in the Valley."
