How to read the Bible daily
How I did it: I picked up the Bible one day, sat down, and started reading it. Every time I became distracted or my thoughts wondered I would stop and pray, asking God to help me stay focused and read it.
I decided I would read a chapter a day, which is what I've stuck with. I read the Bible first thing in the morning, because it's so important that it should be put first anyway. But, also because that way I'm not just putting it off throughout the day, saying I'll do it later & then end up not doing it.
It's just setting your mind to it & then just sitting down, opening it, & reading. Even when you don't feel like it, you've got to do it anyway. Make the mindset that it is so important that you need to do it. I'm always reminded of what Karen Wheaton once said, "When you don't feel like reading the Bible and praying, that's when you need to do it the most."
Lessons & tips: All I can really say here is to just do it. You have to just turn off the TV, music, computer, and all other distractions. Go to a place where you will be able to sit in silence. Pray and ask God to help you to do this and stick to it. Ask for wisdom, knowledge, and understanding as you read the Bible. Then just open it and begin to read it.
It's best to read it in order, rather then jumping around. I have a bookmark that I got from someone that has a schedule where you read different books of the Bible each day of the week. I tried that for a while, but it didn't work for me. I find that it's not as easy to really meditate on the word and get the full understanding doing it that way. If you stick with just one book at a time, reading it through and waiting until you finish that book before you go to reading another then you can get the full understanding and have everything in context.
Also, someone from The Ramp said they stick with one rule: No Word (the Bible), no breakfast. I stuck with that rule each day for a month and that set the pattern to where I now read the Bible daily.
