How to become a pescatarian
How I did it: There was no great plan behind this. My IBS was giving me trouble and I knew red meat was hard to digest. I figured I may as well cut out all meat because I only like to eat ethically sourced, local produce which is a luxury in a credit crunch. But, I didn't want to get all my protein from soya products as soya bean farming can be detrimental to the environment. So I decided to continue eating fish, but only sustainably sourced fish (for those that are interested in sustainably sourced fish, the brand Youngs have a 10 point sustainability program for their products so it's a good place to start).
As I've got no issue with eating meat or those that eat it, I thought it would be hard to see others tucking into a meat dish and not being able to have any. But to be honest, now I've cut it out, I've gone right off the idea of eating it. This has happened over the last few months and is the biggest surprise of all.
Lessons & tips: Always pre warn people if they are cooking a meal, and even offer to take your own fish / veg dish round if they are cooking for a few of you - this way you don't feel your diet choice is putting anyone out.
I thought it may help me loose a bit of weight, but it hasn't.
Try not to just stick to Salmon and Tuna - explore different fish sources that give the environment an easier time.
If anyone tuts or roles their eyes because you are either not fully Veggie, or not fully meat eating. Just take a deep breath and smile and never feel obliged to explain your reasons.
