"moderation is the key here- I try to find other ways to relax/ have fun when I can, but sometimes, you just need to have some drinks with your friends!"
How I did it: Health has to be important enough to you to want to minimize alcohol consumption. Find other ways to have an enjoyable time without drinking. Exercise, be outdoors, keep yourself busy, read, go out to dinner, etc. Most importantly, learn how to enjoy a glass of wine here and there and not need a whole bottle- being sober is fun too! I still let myself go wild once in a while and I enjoy it immensely, but I also remember that the health complications, hangovers, breakouts, weight gain, nausea, etc. are NOT worth it more than once in awhile. Also I can tie on a good buzz and have a great time without being seriously drunk, I think that's a good goal to strive for too.
Lessons & tips: Moderation!! Is the key to happiness in everything, especially with alcohol.
Resources: Finding fun things to do that don't require imbibing alcoholic beverages, keeping busy with productive things like exercising, work, school, errands, chores, etc. and spending time with friends that don't drink a lot.
