How I did it: I went to Spain and work as an au-pair. An au-apair is like a nanny that lives with a family in another country and get's free room and board and a small weekly allowance. It's a cheap way to see a new country and get to experience to real life in a new culture! It was an amazing experience and it was so quick to find a family. Their are plenty of au-pair websites and agencies. I found my family through a website, and it turned out great. You do have to be careful though..my family was fantastic, but not everyone's so lucky.
