How I did it: Well, my mom is basically a single mom in that she supports both me and my brother completely. She didn't want to have us worrying about paying for tuition, so to save us the stress of working and being in school at the same time, she paid it for both of us.

My mother is a teacher, so in order to do this when my older brother went off to college, our lives were downsized; we moved into a really small apartment, she took on a lot of extra jobs, and - as it says in the title - we got rid of the TV.

Lessons & tips: Brainstorm all of the things you can do without your TV - go on walks, go out with friends, see shows, etc. There's a million things to do out there.
