How to update my website
How I did it: 15 years after registering “irieman.com”, my website has recently undergone its 6th or 7th total revamp.
How did I do it? After making excuses for over a year, one day I bit the bullet and deleted my entire website- 10 years worth of content that had become bloated, fragmented and impossible to navigate through. I then installed Wordpress and started from scratch.
Since in the last 4 years I've become an avid blogger, writing, posting, and commenting on 4-5 blogs on a regular basis, switching to format makes perfect sense. I'm trying to keep it as simple as possible, and still not 100% certain as to its future. Nonetheless, fresh content is much better than old outdated stuff!
Lessons & tips: When developing or revamping your website, take some time to develop a clear plan for what you hope to achieve with the site, BEFORE you start thinking about what you want it to look like.
Get a scratch pad and brainstorm ideas, narrowing your focus over time, until you hit that "aha" moment.
Resources: Personally, I chose Wordpress because as I said, I blog all the time now, but moreso because a good friend of mine is a Wordpress Guru and let's me ask him questions all the time without getting irritated or charging me.
I hear Squarespace.com is pretty good too, but I'm not about to switch all my stuff all over again. :)
