How to meet Neil Gaiman
How I did it: Neil has an online blog and the "where's neil" section lets you know how to find him.
http://www.neilgaiman.com/where/
get there early, especially if you're planning on buying shirts or books. Expect to stand in line for a bit.
Lessons & tips: Neil is funny, awesome, and a fantastic reader to listen to. He's also
very kind to his fans, from what I've seen, and very respectful, even
when they sometimes trespass on the toes of decency. For that reason,
I'd say you're more than welcome to stick around and say hello after
whatever event, but try not to mob him or trail him down the street,
and keep things quick, friendly, and very respecful. ("Hello! I love
your books, may I shake your hand?" "Hi, I know you're trying to
escape, but may I have the fastest hug on record?" "I love your books.
I made you a panda, I hope you like it!")
Bad choices include (but are not limited to):
"can I take your picture one at a time with every one of my seven
friend's cameras?"
"Did you get my letter? You never replied."
"Would you sign these fourteen books for me?"
"Did
you like those cookies I sent you last July?" "OMGZ when are you
making a sequel to such-and-such my favorite book EVA"
"Neil Gaiman??? OH MAN!! can we make out??"
Keep in mind he usually does respond to fan mail and is good like that, so rather than fumbling for words, make it fast and simple and send what you REALLY wanted to say later by post.
