sierrak Sun-shiney fall weather...just gorgeous!
Sounds Like a Fabulous Trip!
I used to live in Sonoma County, I miss the wineries a lot! I know there are even more wineries there now then when I moved away. I am glad you had a wonderful trip!
How I did it: My husband and I both love trying new wines and learning more about wine, so we booked a trip the summer of our 10th anniversary to Sonoma County, CA.
We went wine touring and tasting 3 afternoons of our weeklong trip. The other days were spent hiking and driving along the coast.
We visited a winery that our favorite wines come from and visited a few small family owned wineries where we could try wines we can't buy in our area. We also visited a winery that makes champagne and learned about how they make it and bottle it.
Lessons & tips: Stay in an area that is near many wineries, so you have lots of options.
Only go to one or two wineries a day. This way you can take your time to enjoy the wines and learn a lot from the peopleat the wineries. Ask questions. The people at the wineries really seemed to appreciate that we were interested in knowing about their wines, winemaking, grape growing, etc.
Buy some wine that you really love to drink with dinner. It's nice to know you are supporting these small wineries.
Resources: The internet was helpful pre-trip. It gave us a general idea of where to visit.
Once we got there, we just got in the car and explored. Every winery we visited had a sign out front that said whether they were open for the public to drop in.
