How to visit Washington DC
How I did it: I just got back from my third trip to Washington DC. This time, I planned it as a trip for just me and my mom. I had a lot of confidence-building experiences! The first was actually doing all the research on Travelocity to find the best deal. I booked our hotel and our flights and printed out extra information like an airport map and a list of its stores/restaurants. My mom asked my advice about getting through security and onto the plane and I helped her pack a carry-on. I got up early and did our grocery shopping on the first morning and I navigated our subway trips every day. I was very proud of myself for learning how to use the Metro system!
Lessons & tips: Don't get your Metro Pass close to magnets! It will demagnetize and then you will have to go through a big hassle to replace it.
Be prepared to have your purse searched and x-rayed, even if you are just going to a food court or a shopping center.
Smithsonian museums and the Zoo are free!
Washingtonians are MUCH nicer than New Yorkers!
