How to study abroad by moxie

"I was a bit reckless."

How I did it: I received an email from a Professor of mine in college, about a study abroad trip that another college hosts. I read all of the attached information and thought, "No way. It's not possible." The idea stuck with me though, until the one day that I mentioned the opportunity to my Grandma, in passing. She, of course, jumped on it. She pushed me to apply for summer financial aid, and to gather more information. She helped me raise extra money for food and entertainment costs. After hearing from one person that this was possible, I ran after it with all I had.
It was a frightening prospect, leaving my family and friends for some unknown country filled with unknown people. I had my doubts. I'm glad I did it.
Pick a country. Do some research on Frommers or Rick Steves, or any of those places. Find something in that country that you can't live without seeing. Then, reach for it. Do the little extra work to find the money. Save up, if needed. Or apply for financial aid if you're in college. I did not have the money to go on this trip, but I found it.
If you can only make it out of the country for a week, do it. It is so worth it. The boundary between your country of origin and any of the others is easier to cross than you think. You won't regret it.

Lessons & tips: Do some research. Want it with all that you are. Work toward that goal.
