How to write poetry
How I did it: I did it naturally, my mother her mother and my brother and sister all write poeticly. I'm the only one who does it on a daily basis. As a girl I always wished I could be smart like my sister and hoped I could have something in common with my family (being the odd one out). When my Grandmother died after a time my mother wrote a beautiful poem about her mother, and it only made me want to write beautiful things like that even more. My very first serious poem (serious meaning it didn't sound like a ten year old little bratz doll wrote it) was written in church about the differences between people and why the differences are so dwelt upon. It started like this...
Why is the sky blue? Why is the grass green? What is the difference of the people we live between?...
I'm not sure of the rest, it was lost a few days after I wrote it in the flaps of my mother's purse. But I've written tens of serious poems since then.
Lessons & tips: Best advice is read, if you can't read you can't write. Read "how to" books, read books of poetry, read poems that intrest you. I'd even say read poetry to your children, my mother bought me poetry books as a little girl that just planted a seed.
