How to italy
How I did it: I traveled to Rome for only 3 days, since I did a 2 week, Euro trip. 3 days is really not enough! There's so much to see in Rome. The Colosseum, the Imperial Forum, the Vatican City, Sistine Chapel, Vatican Museum, Parthenon..there's so much I didn't get to see. Make sure you visit the Catacombs. That's one that everyone was telling us to go to but couldn't make it to.
It's better to stay for a week and a half to two weeks to make sure that you really enjoy it. Rome is breath taking. It's amazing how you can see the past by being there...I mean, Julius Caesar really existed!
You really need to take time and take in everything you see. Don't forget to try the Gelato when you get there!
Lessons & tips:
- Learn some basic Italian to get around.
- Know how to navigate the train system
- Never take the cab from the airport to Rome..they charge you so much $$$$, when you can ride the train to the Termini (Central Rome) for 11 Euro!
- Bed and Breakfast are good to stay at.
- Don't touch anything the vendors sell..they want you to tell them what you want ..then they get it for u!
- Pasta! Freshly made pasta is the best ever.
- Don't buy Olive oil there..same thing in the States, lol
- You need at least 2 weeks of stay to enjoy all of Rome
- Beware of pickpockets. Didn't happen to me but it helped to wear a body hugger bag.
- Pope holds mass every wednesday at 11am...go early to avoid mass transit crowd!
- Don't take the tour bus..not worth it! Better to walk so you can enjoy everything.
- Bring an umbrella if you're going during Spring/Summer time.
Resources: Guide to Rome (any guide books..i bought one there)
Went there on an impulse..so didn't get to prep much..
